Second Expansion Of Federal Unemployment Program Will Provide More Funds To Thousands Across N.C.
Thousands of out-of-work North Carolina citizens will be receiving more money as of today, as just over $2 million has been initially paid out by the state’s Employment Security Commission as part of a new extension
to unemployment benefits.
"This second part of the EUC08 program, passed by Congress, will provide sorely-needed money for families trying
to make ends meet throughout our state," said ESC Chairman Moses Carey Jr. "Unemployment benefits have always been, and are meant to be, a stabilizing force in the local community, for these funds are quickly spent for immediate needs right where people live."

Those who have been filing weekly certifications and are still out of work should continue to file.
Those who have a claim for unemployment insurance, but have exhausted their benefits and have not been able to file weekly certifications and are still out of work, should attempt to file a weekly certification. Those unable to file a weekly certification should then file an initial claim. Weekly certifications for such claims may be filed beginning on, or after, Sunday, February 8.
Initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits and weekly certifications may be filed via the Internet at www.ncesc.or via the telephone as follows:

Thousands of unemployed workers will received payments very quickly, as $2,009,846 in benefits were released today.
