Last Call for Leaves

The Town will begin its final leaf collection on Monday, Feb. 16. Public Works crews will pick up all loose leaves raked to the curb that are free of limbs and debris. To assure collection in the final cycle, all leaves must be placed at the curb before Feb. 16. Anyone having leaves after the end of the final cycle should place them in a 30-gallon brown paper yard waste bag or a yard waste roll cart or other rigid container for curbside collection on the regular yard waste collection schedule (yard waste is collected on Thursday for residents with Monday garbage service and on Friday for residents with Tuesday garbage service). Yard waste roll carts are available from the Public Works Department at a cost of $43 per cart. Information: (919) 969-5100 or www.townofchapelhill.org/leaves. Leaves placed in plastic bags will not be collected.

An alternative to disposal of leaves and yard waste through Town collection programs is backyard composting. Residents may obtain information on home composting by calling N. C. Botanical Gardens (919-962-0522), Agriculture Extension Agent (919-968-4501) or Orange Community Recycling (919-968-2788).
